Her eyes dart over to the bar once, briefly; yeah, that sure is Vriska, and given the matching age she has vague ideas about the sort of dimension. She's got to take care of this mirror, though. Maybe once it's done...]

[Her cloth casually falls out of her hand onto the table as she turns around.]

That's certainly me despite what some people will tell you. Still Vriska Serket, I take it?

[piratey]

Who else would I be?

Not a lot of people.

How are you?

[piratey]

Well, for a while I was wondering where I am and how I got here, but then I decided to just roll with it.

... I think I'm going to have a margarita.

[restoretherace]

[She shrugs.] I don't know about you; in my case I think it's the Initiative's way of sending us on furlough. Have you been conscripted or not? Either way a drink will probably help.

[piratey]

[she orders her drink, then sighs]

Let me guess; you're talking game stuff, right? Sorry, Kanaya. I've been away from that universe for more than ten years. Sgrub isn't a part of my life anymore.

[restoretherace]

[She shakes her head.] I'm talking about a different kind of war. Probably might as well be Prospit and Derse for all it presumably has to do with you now, though.

[piratey]

Right.

So if you got out of the game too, where did you end up?

[restoretherace]

Exsilium, which is basically Prospit on Earth. The United Earth is our Derse. I've been fighting in their war since... pretty much since the last time we saw each other. [That's simpler.] And where have you been?

[piratey]

[she has to take a moment to dig through her memory to remember exactly what Prospit and Derse symbolized in the game, but eventually she seems satisfied with Kanaya's explanation]

A broken-down city that was stranded in time.

[restoretherace]

[Eyebrows rise.] That seems to be a constant with these interdimensional escapades. Time being overly complicated, I mean.

[piratey]

We've been working to fix it for a long time. It's... slow-going.

[restoretherace]

[Mild grimace.] Same here. A lot of people come and go in the meantime...

[piratey]

... And lose their memories when they come back.

[restoretherace]

...Or arrive with even less memories than they started out with.

[piratey]

Right.

I wonder if your place and my place are connected somehow.

[restoretherace]

There are a lot of realms of such a nature out there. Yours would make... about the sixth I've heard of. It's a pretty common impulse of - human scientists or soldiers living on a ruined or otherwise wrong planet, usually, I think [details get fuzzy after a while and she never did find out for sure how much of that was the case for Carriero] - to come to the conclusion they should build a machine to keep them company.

[piratey]

That wasn't how it is for us, though. We got there by accident.

[restoretherace]

Oh. How much so?

[piratey]

This group of scientists made a machine that pulled us in by accident. We're still working to fix that.

[restoretherace]

So it was supposed to do something else entirely... interesting.

[piratey]

Probably something related, but, yeah. They definitely didn't bring us there because they wanted to.

Oooof course, there are people who've been around for a long time who don't want to leave anymore. Once you've been somewhere for years and years, it has a way of growing on you.

Especially if your circumstances beforehand weren't exactly desirable anyway.
