[In Tokyo, the Kashiwabara family's large apartment has one master bedroom along with the double bedroom that the twins used to willingly share. Ennea is out working as a personal trainer in Yokohama. It's Nona Kashiwabara whom you're more likely to meet; she's still in the apartment, on the veranda absorbing sunlight as she puts together collages of spec pieces for fashion magazines. Hazuki, better known as "Lotus", wakes up every morning alone in her queen sized bed. There's a folder on her dresser like a sleek leather diploma case, and a framed manga portrait of herself on the wall. And underneath the mounted mirror is a large golden ring that hangs on a hook above a flat sheet of paper. There is a bottle of absinthe in the closet, still two-thirds full. She makes herself black tea every morning, and water with one drop of absinthe every night.

It's May, when Hazuki doesn't have her consolation prize contract anymore. Soon she'll have to follow up on some leads - the next three weeks at least are promising enough with a project that ran over deadline for reasons that aren't her fault or problem. A sunny day. An excuse to underdress. She goes out to the tai chi club, like she does every week along with belly dancing (got to have goals and a reason to get out of the house), and she posts a picture of herself afterwards on Facebook. Her skin is clearer than ever.]

Here they were in the pig iron complex to end all complexes. They all started to look the same after a while, doing this so many times before: Cultural differences melted away, and the entire operation appeared to Kanaya as an interconnected webwork of data. Just as a predator in any environment could eventually sense the interactions that governed the heartbeats of prey, she could hone in on the locations of files in each room they entered, an almost effortless appearance of routine maintenance. The mission was going almost too smoothly, as the soldier young woman felt like a little girl in a candy shop. It would have been nice if she could have taken advantage of her supernatural speed to get this done even more efficiently...

And at a particular juncture the Jenga tower collapsed. She reached for her gun as the sparkles stole away from her skin, in the split second before the blocks all hit the table and the floor. Her cool grip told her that the weapon's extension of herself was only psychological now. Alive again. Alien. Powerless. There was her heartbeat, awfully pounding in her ears. Could he feel this too? She had not asked him, about the holding facility - doubted he wanted to talk about it any more than she did - and did not know if he could feel the same pervasive sense of loss, if he felt blinded.

So she called his name, just once, not allowing fear to raise her voice so much they would attract even more attention:

"Kano."

That was when the alarm became audible.

The Cuisinart Boiler 2100 let out its telltale ding--the tea was done! Kanaya sprang up to retrieve it, thanking the technology gods for the twentieth time that an automated solution had emerged so she could prepare food for her mortal partner. Using both hands to prevent any tea from spilling, she turned around again and presented the cup to Mami.

"Here you go."

Why am I here?

You're interested in the United Earth Chemical Supply Sabotage White Collar Crime Spree! Offshoots include the United Earth Arms Dealer Sabotage White Collar Crime Spree, and the United Earth Biological Weapon Sabotage White Collar Crime Spree.

Why should I care?

You want two characters to go on a mission that negatively impacts the United Earth instead of simply supplies the moonbase. At the same time, you don't have to come up with an objective, and since the mission work is so tedious, you're free to focus your threads on a more fun local activity. Like a teashop lunchbreak, or a bookstore run, or a karaoke bar visit.

Where are we going?

A major city! Examples so far include Berlin, London, Paris, Tokyo. The type of place you could reasonably expect a large corporation to have its headquarters. If you would really enjoy an esoteric location, feel free to come up with a justification, such as being the founder's hometown or favorite retreat.

When are we going?

The era will probably be between 2000 and 2700, late enough to have direct effects on some advanced technology but before the founding of the United Earth and corresponding advancement of security.

Why are we going there?

In other words, why does the cast, location, and time of the mission correspond to what the players want OOC?

The exact timing of the mission is selected based on the age, gender, and number of Transports. For example, there may be three female temps hired to cover for a company vacation; this would call for Kanaya Maryam and Mami Tomoe and Celestia Ludenberg.

What kind of transports are elgible for this anyway?

This has been designed to be available for Transports of all ability ranges, since you basically need to do the bureaucratic work of normal humans. If there are more transports, or if they have skills like data manipulation or deception that make the work more efficient, the impact of the individual mission may be greater. The most otherworldly of relevant skills would likely be mind control.

How does my character sign up?

These missions are designed by the AI! So you can feel free to do this type of mission independently, whether solo or group. If you have CR with Kanaya - or, hey, someone she's roped into this - you can get a personal invitation.

How would this go down?

  1. Inbox thread!
  2. Mission form submission!
  3. Log with transporter meetup!
  4. Subsequent local recreation thread!

It is almost five in the morning and Kanaya is nowhere to be found in the hotel room commandeered by the Future Foundation. She is conspicuously absent from her usual nighttime position on the other side of the double bed where Kyouko sleeps while she watches. Neither brushing up on her Japanese nor working with any computing solution, hands free or otherwise.

A SHSL Detective, however, would not be terribly challenged to follow a trail down the staircase and across the parking lot. From there, a light in the alleyway suggests a glowing alien is the source.
speakveryclearly: Kanaya glowing and not sure what else to do with herself; with a flat expression, she has just arrived on the scene. (Arrival)

There is no running water. There are also some closets of varying size and quality.

FIRST FLOOR
Front lobby area. There is a desk where Kanaya has a few administrative supplies, paper and electronic both. This area is very clean and nicely lit. There is even a generic painting, as well as a vase of some fascimile flowers. A bench built into the wall.
Five club rooms in a row (ceilings are two stories high, kind of small length/width wise). Clean but pretty much empty and electricity is a WIP.
Something that used to be a swimming pool with associated locker rooms. Kanaya keeps them locked. (She found a keyring in the lobby desk.)
Completely untouched and wrecked
The elevator does not work, and the organs.
The stairs are cleaned of dust, but there are some traces of mold on the wall and floor and stuff, which is rather unattractive plaster, and stairwells just don't light up well.

SECOND FLOOR
Tops of elevator, stairs, and club rooms (visible through glass, not accessible from second story) These areas are pretty much what you would expect from the parts of them on the first floor.
Main multipurpose room (large) This one is her baby. She's put a lot of work and a non-negligible amount of money into making the quality about as good as shit was at Tony Stark's birthday party. Party lights and multiple types of fabric decorations. Working on acquiring stereo.
1st multipurpose room (medium) - Work in progress. One table and ten chairs. Lighting is still basic here.
2nd multipurpose room (medium) - clean but empty.

[It's some time in June or May, the time ambiguous analogously to the game canonicity, and Kanaya has found herself on Nepeta's couch in one of her less formal dresses. Though like everything she wears in Exsilium her collarbone is covered, her arms aren't, which complements her likewise egregiously casual posture.]

...but they said that going anywhere other than when you left your universe of origin would take even more months or years to perfect, so it's pretty much a non-issue for both of us, isn't it.

[She's getting so thirsty, to the point where it stretches her lips too wide and darkens the space beneath her eyeballs. It's been over two months since Gamzee cartwheeled out and she was on mission a month before that.]
speakveryclearly: Kanaya with her arms around Karkat's neck, staring at him silently though he's bored and uncomfortable. Jade monochrome. (Devotion)
[personal profile] speakveryclearly
[It's been a week, probably. Keeping time isn't impossible here, but it's not exactly easy, and the only thing Kanaya's certain of is not being able to count the days on one hand anymore. Thirst has begun to prick at the back of her think pan a little more. But it's not unsafe to be around Vriska yet, she thinks as she rummages through the thermal hulls containing nothing of interest to someone like herself. Her affinity for the machines has always been lower than someone like Vriska. So it is that the pattern is more of Kanaya checking up on her, coming into the navigation room where Vriska is already there, to stand nearby the captain's seat and hand-deliver a processed space sandwich.]

How is it going?
speakveryclearly: Kanaya reapplying jade lipstick, tainted with human blood, to her sparkling bloody face. (Preparing)

For seasons Kanaya had agonized over how to handle her growing affections for the only other greenblooded troll on Earth. Well. Only other greenblooded town her age. She couldn't forget Di.

As she watched from a windowsill every night, she mourned the familiar futility of her position. In all likelihood, Nepeta would just disappear before anything of excessive expressiveness was ever said. Yet... yet she saw a faint air of innocence and peace hanging around her in spite of the bloodshed and maturation she knew Nepeta had endured. It was so attractive. Something she shouldn't disturb. What if, after all, she were the one who left? They were mercenaries, and their allowance was five hundred marques and an apartment, no matespritship allotted therein.

Eventually, though, it became clear to Kanaya that she couldn't undie this way - she couldn't perform the supernatural feat of restraint anymore. As a jadebloooded troll, perhaps she could make the nightly sacrifice of chastity; but dammit, she was a rainbow drinker.

Crafting her lair was a difficult task that took place over several weeks. The Earth sun being so much weaker than its Alternian counterpart, especially in Exsilium, she could not rely on burning beams bending sand into glass.

The outfits were easier. She had no idea what her own ancestor wore so she had to go for something straightforward without a jacket, but with Nepeta she fortunately had some guidelines with how to make her dress seem more adult. So it was that Nepeta would find on her doorstep one day a top which resembled the Disciple's in that the Leo symbol looped around the wearer's neck... and little else. This would be accompanied by a note written in pencil, though the cursive handwriting might not be entirely unfamiliar to Nepeta:

Should you follow the directions below
You will find yourself in a dangerous battle with a predator that poses a threat to your livelihood and happiness

Those would lead Nepeta through the outlands - not too far, but past a couple monsters, ones Kanaya was confident she could handle - into the oasis crafted meticulously out of sand and glass, where she would be waiting.

A flawless plan that had only cost a couple thousand marques in the end. She was so alone.

[July 4, 3315. Kanaya had learned by now that in one ancient Earth culture, this date was significant because it marked the declaration independence of the United States from the United Kingdom. By now, after almost four Earth solar years separated from her homeworld, she had learned those were distinct countries. But to her, this date had a different significance. It was a sweep to the day that Kanaya had learned one of her dearest friends, with whom she had perhaps the most kinship of experience, was estranged in Exsilium from her moirail, a bond forged in such a time that it was largely irreplicable by the winds of chance that dominated the transport social scene. Kanaya had learned the hard way, as the trolls she knew left and returned and left and returned again and again, that they'd had a point about not restoring the race here. But the Initiative was making progress in this war, however long it was taking, and for one of its most loyal members, who had swallowed her Alternian prejudices, her quirk, her symbol, her society, who wore only an iron-on Virgo patch on the uniform she had helped design, "chance" didn't dominate who came and went quiet as much as you might think.]

Hey.
Nepeta.
Can you come to the Hold?
Something has happened here that's very relevant to your interests.

[She accompanied the text message with a location ping to the exact room where she and Vriska were waiting, then turned to her companion.] It won't be long until she gets here now. If you want to get behind a door or otherwise set up your reunion to be more dramatic, now would be the time.
speakveryclearly: Kanaya very serious over a needle and thread in her hand and mouth. (Determined)
[personal profile] speakveryclearly
[It's been forty-eight hours. Kanaya's redone her makeup at least six times. The conclusion that they are in a spaceship has sunk into her stomach along with the body she drained that one time. There's not need there yet, to see someone or feed on them, but want is. Her four fangs press unused in her mouth, always with her, and she can't soften their presence with sleep.

She made a map in black pen. It's not much. Respective symbols on the rooms where they started. Kanaya regards it as hers; not sure yet how Vriska feels. Probable borders. The room she found with a display of stars she'd never seen (never set foot on Earth!) and controls she didn't dare to touch.

Kanaya's finally confident enough, though, to leave her room with map in one hand and the other cupped around her mouth, going through the hallway. She has the vague idea, from scents and sounds, that the other girl's been on the move; not yet where.]
