[Here they are on Thursday, the neglected period of time when the castle was literally falling apart along with Kanaya's patience in general. She's made too many moral compromises for belief to be enough, but coming of age after all these murders has left her determined to live for herself, in the moment, making the current threat of carnage unbearably real.
Only behind the concession stand can Kanaya disappear into a repetitive duty and a fulfilling companionship: Dear sweet precious Chizuru. All the other arbitrary affiliations and empty cycles of consumptions have drained Kanaya, and collapsing into the idea that Chizuru qualifies as family is the easiest thing she has ever done, the first step back into a principle of charity. Away from the swollen, sweating crowd, Chizuru's scent overpowers the much less interesting foodstuffs. If holding her hand is the best way Kanaya can express her appreciation and keep the other woman anchored here, so be it. This position makes it easiest to tell when that muscle relaxes in her neck somewhere, and so Kanaya turns her head to whisper.]
